New “Bests” in Sin City

Las Vegas is continually evolving, introducing more great food, shopping, and sights to a city that already puts one’s senses on a pleasant overload. Here are some of the most notable newcomers.  By Nicole Alper

A. Best New Hotel
This year marks the opening of the new Palazzo luxury hotel wing at the Venetian, filled with an all-star line-up of celebrity chefs — Mario Batali, Emeril Lagasse, Wolfgang Puck, and Charlie Trotter, to name a few. The focal point: the 450,000-square-foot retail space, The Shoppes at The Palazzo, featuring 50-plus luxury boutiques including Barney’s. www.palazzolasvegas.com

B. Best New Salon
Walking into COLOR, a new salon by Michael Boychuck (who colors the tresses of everyone form Paris Hilton to Jennie Garth) at Caesar’s Palace Las Vegas, is like walking into a cumulous cloud — with just a touch of Versailles: white walls and furnishings are accented with sparkling crystal chandeliers and oversized mirrors. Don’t miss a trip to the Lather Lounge, a decadent room devoted entirely to the shine and strength of your hair! www.colorbyboychuck.com

C. Best New Restaurant
Chef Kerry Simon brings his tantalizing tastes and rock ’n roll personality to the new luxury tower at the Palms Casino with the opening of Simon at Palms Place. On the menu: an 8,400-square-foot California modern eatery overlooking the pool, with earth-friendly touches such as a greenhouse wall for the chef’s herbs and micro-greens. www.palmsplace.com

D. Best New Lounge
It’s modeled after an elegant interpretation of a 19th-century bordello, but what makes CatHouse at the Luxor Hotel & Casino the best new lounge is in part the fact that it also is home to more new eats by chef Kerry Simon. Feast on decadent truffle macaroni and cheese (this is not what your mother whipped up) before slipping into the neighboring “loungerie” for drinks and dancing. www.luxor.com/nightlife
