The Food And Wine Issue
I must admit I’ve been fixated on food and wine now for weeks, with good reason. Recently completing my first duathlon (okay, a “sprint” or “mini” duathlon, if you will, but who’s counting?), I’ve been trying to eat for energy, for nutrition, and, certainly, for recovery after some long workouts (while still enjoying wine in moderation — for the health benefits, of course). Plus, this is Celebrated Living’s second Food and Wine Issue, so the entire staff has had the pleasure of creating a magazine filled with lively places to go and fun things to do, much of it with a food and wine theme. CL readers chose food and wine as one of their very favorite topics in a survey not long ago — I knew we had a lot in common!
The food and wine theme begins with the first page, as internationally known chef Nigella Lawson graces our cover. Learn more about her in our feature on the super-successful Food Network on page 34. Writer and food expert Nicole Alper, whose childhood love of Julia Child later inspired her to attend the California Culinary Academy (where she actually got to cook for Child herself) and pen two cookbooks, Wild Women in the Kitchen and The Everything Easy Gourmet Cookbook, fulfilled a dream by going behind the scenes at the Food Network for the cover story. “Of course I’ve followed the Food Network shows along with the rest of the country,” says Alper. “But being right there on the set — feeling the passion of everyone and watching the chefs work their magic — almost made me want to park my pen and don my chef’s whites again.”
To accompany the culinary offerings, we’ve fashioned a beautiful wine story beginning on page 26. As photo shoots go, this one was a delight to produce. The “models” never complained, the photographer, stylist, and assistants were absolute pros, and we even got to open a couple of the luxury reds for creative purposes.
For all of the golf (and wine) fans, don’t miss “From Greens to Grapes” on page 76; this is an interesting look at how some of the game’s top players are getting serious about the wine business.
Once you’ve had your fill of food and wine, explore our fall fashion report with wardrobe tips for men and women, a fun family travel story that can involve your entire household in planning your next vacation, and much more. So please take this issue of Celebrated Living home with you, savor it, and share it with others.
